The Church's support of SOCA

Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila
"Perhaps now more than ever there is an urgent need for evangelization especially of the youth. SOCA is unique in its blend of zeal authentically Catholic mysticism and practicality to form the next generation of Catholic lay apostles."

Archbishop Alexander Sample
"I have been deeply impressed by the community's commitment to spiritual growth and healing. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking spiritual renewal and connection."

Bishop James Conley
"Souls of the Christian Apostolate has a unique and extremely important mission in today's world. The human person longs for connection at the deepest and most spiritual levels of their being. SOCA offers an opportunity for Catholics, and other Christians of Good Will, to tap into the richness of our Catholic mystical tradition."

Archbishop Thomas E. Gullickson
"SOCA is among the honest and enthusiastic efforts in the Church today to contribute to the all-important work of Evangelization, sowing the seed of the Gospel in people's hearts, and thereby to bring our world to Jesus, the Lord of Life. This group is both solid and genuine; it speaks to our times. Men and young men, in particular, need a challenge, while being offered solid Catholic nourishment rooted in our best tradition."
Mental Prayer

“
The devil knows he has lost a soul who perseveringly practices mental prayer... He who neglects mental prayer needs not a devil to carry him to hell, but he brings himself there with his own hands.
-ST. TERESA OF ÁVILA

“
In mental prayer, the soul is purified from its sins, nourished with charity, confirmed in faith, and strengthened in hope; temptation is conquered, sadness dispelled; drooping powers revive... inflamed with the fire of divine love.
-ST. peter of alcantara

“
Mental prayer is morally necessary for salvation... All saints became such through mental prayer.
-ST. alphonsus ligouri
WHAT WILL BE COVERED
🕯
THE INTERIOR LIFE
Why mental prayer is the only foundation that holds — and how to actually build it as a young adult in 2026.
✝
VOCATION AND DISCERNMENT
Marriage, religious life, consecrated singlehood — how to discern when everything feels uncertain and the culture offers no map.
👤
AUTHENTIC MASCULINITY AND FEMININITY
What it means to be a man or a woman formed by the interior life — against the backdrop of gender ideology, hookup culture, and collapse.
⛓
NIHILISM AND THE MEANING CRISIS
The philosophical vacuum underneath modern despair. Why "you make your own meaning" is the most dangerous idea in the modern world — and what the Catholic answer actually is.
❤
ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, AND THE SPIRITUAL LIFE
The real relationship between mental health and the interior life — what psychology gets right, what it misses, and how prayer changes everything underneath.
🌍
WAR, SUFFERING, AND PROVIDENCE
How a young Catholic holds faith in the face of real evil, injustice, and violence — integrating the tradition with the hardest questions about God's will and human suffering.
📖
CATHOLICISM AND OTHER RELIGIONS
What the Church actually teaches about other faiths — and how to hold that with both conviction and charity in a pluralistic world.
🚪
CONVERSION AND COMING HOME
What is driving the wave of young adults converting to or returning to Catholicism — and how to become the kind of community that receives them well.
💍
MARRIAGE AND RELATIONSHIP FORMATION
What the interior life does to how you love, how you choose a spouse, and how you build a marriage that does not collapse under modern pressure.
❓
EXISTENTIAL QUESTIONS AND APOLOGETICS
The real objections to faith that young adults are encountering — not academic philosophy but lived experience. How to answer them from a place of depth rather than defensiveness.
🌅
PURPOSE, CALLING, AND DIRECTION
How to move from vague spiritual hunger to concrete clarity about what you are supposed to do with your life — through the interior life, not personality tests.
⚓
SINGLENESS AND THE LONG WAIT
The spiritual and practical reality of extended singleness — what it is for, how to live it without bitterness, and how the interior life transforms the waiting.
EIGHT YEARS OF FORMATION ACROSS EVERY FRONT
Since 2018 SOCA has brought the interior life to tens of thousands of people through multiple online and in-person conferences, talks given across the country, the Mental Prayer Challenge with small group accountability, personal discipleship and spiritual direction, formation resources, and the SOCA plan of life structure that has walked people through building a real prayer life from the ground up. We have done this across every age group and demographic.
But young adults are a particular case. They are at the hinge point of their lives. Vocation, identity, friendship, purpose, salvation. The decisions they make in these years determine everything. They are also the demographic least reached by conventional Catholic formation and most hungry for something real. That is why Altum exists. Everything SOCA has built over eight years is now focused through the lens of what young adults specifically need and how to actually reach them.

“
"This conference really impacted me. I woke up a different person today. I asked Mary and my guardian angel for support and felt their constant, loving pulling me back into my prayers. What a blessing!"
— C.R., conference participant
“
I was in a very rough place — a place of deep hopelessness. Then your conference came up. This has helped me tremendously. I have concrete plans for moving forward. I have much more hope than when I first began.
— C.I., conference participant
“
Having a group of men committed to the same discipline has been a missing piece in building this habit. I am much more mindful of how I'm building my daily prayer.
— C.G., SOCA Participant
Altum Young Adults is a program of SOCA, Souls of the Christian Apostolate, founded in August 2018 in Denver, Colorado. The name references Duc in Altum, the words of Christ to his disciples: launch into the deep. In eight years SOCA has helped introduce tens of thousands of people to mental prayer and has endorsements from over 7 bishops. Altum is the young adult expression of that mission, bringing serious spiritual formation, real community, and outreach to new souls together in one place.
