ALTUM YOUNG ADULTS · An APOSTOLATE of SOCA

About Altum

For every one that enters the Church, over six leave. Altum Young Adults is a movement to reverse that trend with deep renewal through vocations and marriages rooted in the one thing necessary: the interior life of prayer.

The name is a reference to Duc in Altum ("launch into the deep") the words of Christ calling his disciples, and the animating conviction of everything Altum does. This was the underlying theme in St. John Paul II's Apostolic Letter at the turn of the century (Novo Millennio Ineuente): the Church is called to renewal by launching into deep prayer.

How does Altum work? Group mental prayer challenges that are volunteer-led. We spread the word through social events nationally and by partnering with local community apostolates. These events offer us the opportunity to introduce and inspire young adults with mental prayer.

WHAT ALTUM IS BUILT ON

Depth in Three Dimensions.

Altum is built around one conviction: depth is the only thing that produces lasting change. Everything the movement does — the Prayer Challenge, the spiritual discussions, the Ball, the conference — flows from these three principles.

Interior Life

Mental prayer is the foundation that holds everything together. Altum is built around the conviction that a consistent interior life — daily mental prayer, silence, and discipline — is what changes a person from the inside out.

Real Community

Depth of meaningful spiritual conversation, not just surface-level socializing. Altum creates the conditions for the kinds of conversations most people are starving for — about faith, vocation, purpose, and what it actually means to live well.

Timeless

In a world that has lost its sense of who men and women are and what they're for, Altum recovers something older. Authentic masculinity and femininity. Vocational clarity. Cultural formation. The dignity and intentionality of a life rooted in tradition — lived with conviction, not apology.

FOR EVERY 1 WHO ENTERS THE CHURCH OVER 6 LEAVE. THERE IS A BETTER WAY.

Deep renewal for a generation hungry for something beyond surface religion,

for a living faith and a prayer life that lasts.

"SOCA offers an opportunity to tap into the richness of our Catholic mystical tradition."

BISHOP JAMES CONLEY, DIOCESE OF LINCOLN

THE FOUNDER's story

What Inspired This

I spent time in a dark place. I had fallen away from grace and found my way back through the interior life: learning to actually talk to God, and discovering that he was a real, living God who demanded everything. Not a comfortable religion. Not a lukewarm faith. All in or not at all.

That conversion led me to religious life in France: a traditional monastic community where I learned the stages of the spiritual life, the discipline of mental prayer, and what it actually means to build a life on an interior foundation. And then I was called back out to the frontlines of evangelization. To bring what I had learned into the lives of ordinary young people who needed it desperately and had no one offering it to them.

I founded SOCA in August 2018 with one conviction: the interior life is not an abstract spiritual concept. It is the most practical and urgent thing we can give a young person. A prayer life that holds. A relationship with God that is real. A foundation that does not collapse under the pressure of real life.

Eight years later, SOCA has helped introduce tens of thousands of people to mental prayer and has a robust evangelization and formation architecture.

Young adults are core to the future renwal of the Church and have unique needs. Altum is the expression of SOCA's apostolate to fill that need.

"Souls of the Christian Apostolate has a unique and extremely important mission in today's world. The human person longs for connection at the deepest and most spiritual levels of their being. SOCA offers an opportunity for Catholics, and other Christians of Good Will, to tap into the richness of our Catholic mystical tradition."

"SOCA is among the honest and enthusiastic efforts in the Church today to contribute to the all-important work of Evangelization, sowing the seed of the Gospel in people's hearts, and thereby to bring our world to Jesus, the Lord of Life. This group is both solid and genuine; it speaks to our times. Men and young men, in particular, need a challenge, while being offered solid Catholic nourishment rooted in our best tradition."
